Day #24

The luxury of having premade smoothies in the fridge is that I can grab some whenever I want it. As a result I am getting more nutrients and avoiding other less healthy food choices.
This afternoon I made my first batch of homemade granola bars. They are delicious. Their flavor is intense and they have the same consistency as Clif bars, always a favorite of mine in the past. Let me know if you would like the recipe.
What's in your blender?

  1. This smoothie was by FAR the thickest yet. i went 'greens crazy' after a brief trip to my 'other' garden plot. i also did the clean-out-the fridge method as far as the fruit goes.(I'll include the recipe-but beware...THICK)

    75% mixed/just picked garden greens (25%-kale, 25%-lettuce, 25%-carrot tops)
    3/4 cup home cultured kefir
8oz kombucha (this was a little flat, not sure what would happen if you blend the super fizzy stuff)
    small handfull of alfalfa sprouts
    handful of blackberries
    chunk of frozen strawberries
    handful of blueberries
    1scoop vanilla whey protein powder
    water to consistency

The flavor is alright-kind of bland and green (though i dont mind a green taste at all so i might be baised).

It's definitely filling!! And the color was a nice purple.

ger-i also like the convenience of grabbing a pre-made smoothie out of the fridge. its already nice and chilled and you can just shake em up.

blend blend blend blend blend....and repeat!

  2. Granola (Clif Bar) Recipe
    1 c honey
    1 c natural peanut butter
    1 c rolled oats
    1/2 c protein powder
    1/2 c raisins
you can add other dried fruit nuts, seeds, etc.

boil honey for about 3 minutes then add the peanut butter and stir well. next add oats, protein powder and raisins. press mixture into pan and cool. cut into bars and wrap individually for an easy travel meal.

  3. It's a drizzly Saturday morning here in Duluth.

I just finished my first premade smoothie, and will continue this practice when I get home. The smoothie held up and tasted great. And I love the fact that it's so easy to take this practice "on the road".

I made the granola bars earlier in the week thinking I'd bring them along. They were gone by Thursday so made another batch Thursday night. They're a hit with everyone. Janet brought a box of granola bars and I read the ingredients. It's amazing that even something framed as a "health food" contains so much crap.

Not smoothie related but last night I had a fabulous vegetable enchilada, rice and margarita at Lake Ave Cafe. I wish we had a restaurant like that in Grand Rapids.

    Bye for now :)

  4. Becky - I too wish for a decent restaurant in G-Rock. Would it be able to stay open? If so, how come it hasn't been done yet?

    Stay warm my dear friend!
