Day #18

Just consumed a leftover smoothie for breakfast. While I know that fresh foods quickly lose nutritional value when exposed to light, heat, coolness, etc. I believe that a day-old smoothie is far more nutritious than a day-old doughnut. What are your thoughts?
Sweet Little Flower shared a book with me titled 'Simple Food'. My favorite thought provoking quote so far is, "Cooked, canned or frozen foods are embalmed dead foods." Reactions?

  1. geri- glad you are reading the book!

Though, i do believe that quote to be true on some level. i also take great satisfaction in preparing my garden produce at the end of the season in all of these forms.
Obviously, as far as nutritional content goes, fresh and raw pack the most punch, but i think that canned, frozen, and cooked from your garden or in your local neighborhood pack an earthly, and healthier impact than buying them from your local box store in those forms.
In the end, i say....as long as you are comsuming your fruits and veggies....if it's the frozen, canned or cooked ones that will get you to eat them...then you are better off than someone who won't eat them at all!.

Having said that....i'm loving the FRESH SMOOTHIES, and have been doing a lot of reading on raw foods. i do try to incorporate them as often as possible in our meals, because we like em'! i am currently growing alfalfa sprouts in my kitchen cabinet, and will be adding them to my smoothie in a few days...should be interesting and healthy!!

    have a beautiful day,
