Day #12

Repeated the recipe from yesterday with spinach as the green. Yummy as usual! And as I was perusing another blog written by a friend of mine I found this link incredible link:

If you only want to spend 10 minutes at your computer because it's so damn nice out, check out this spot. It is truly amazing information!

Namaste,

  1. We have a Sunday morning tradition of pancakes for breakfast so had today's smoothie for a late lunch.

I juiced a couple of apples, pears, peaches, carrots and swiss chard then blended with vanilla yogurt, some rice protein powder and another couple swiss chard leaves. It was excellent.

Today I'm washing and packaging the spinach, carrots and swiss chard I bought yesterday at the Farmer's Market so it'll be easy to use during the week.

I'm wondering about the carrot tops - has anyone juiced these or used them as a "green"?

  2. Beck,
I have never heard yay or nay on carrot tops. I guess I would just google it and you are bound to find the answer. If I was a betting woman, I would say they are edible.

  3. Jeez' Louise, Geri! Thank you SO MUCH for your wonderfully kind and generous words about my blog! I feel like I wanna come over and do all your dishes for the week or something! Wash your blender...Something! Anyway, love what you're doing here, and just added you to my blog roll (or whatever it's called; I am computer illiterate in the worst way). Now must go & make my starving wife a smoothie (of all things!), cuz' we're on day 4 of Jubb's 14 Day cleanse, where you do only green smoothies (and tons of wacky exotic herbal protocols) for 2 weeks. Ciao!

  4. Mark,
You are very welcome! You were instrumental in getting this effort moving forward. I was in the teacher training at Yoga North this past winter and I had the opportunity to hear you speak...loved every word of it!
Today I found your blog via Deborah's blog and you know the rest of the story.
The information you have available is exactly what I was looking for and I have already heard from others that they think your blog rocks as well!
    So THANK YOU!

  5. Here's what I found out about carrot tops on the Vegetarians in Paradise website [http://www.vegparadise.com/highestperch412.html]

"Carrot tops are an outstanding source of chlorophyll, the green pigment that studies have shown to combat the growth of tumors. Chlorophyll contains cleansing properties that purify the blood, lymph nodes, and adrenal glands. Scientists have been unable to synthesize chlorophyll in the laboratory, but green plant foods contain sufficient quantities to protect the human body... Juicing aficionados will appreciate the refreshing flavor and energy boost a glass of carrot juice can offer. And don't overlook the chlorophyll-packed carrot tops that add nutrients to a juiced green drink."

I just cleaned the carrots I bought at the Farmer's Market and will wash off and bag up the tops as well - I'll let you know how it goes :)

  6. Excellent info on the carrot tops. I can't wait to hear how they taste.
I continue to be amazed at how much we are learning from this experience.
